Clark University Trustee Steven C. Roberts ’74 has accepted two prestigious appointments this year. Last month, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi appointed Roberts to the Board of Directors for The Congressional Award, Congress’ highest honor for America’s youth. Roberts is one of five civilians to serve in this capacity, and is the only member of the board representing Missouri.
In January, Roberts began serving as chief of staff to St. Louis Sheriff Vernon Betts, who took office Jan. 1. Roberts currently holds the rank of colonel. He has served on the St. Louis Board of Aldermen as well as the Boards of Directors of both the Missouri Municipal League and the National League of Cities.
Roberts is recognized as one of St. Louis’ most dynamic entrepreneurs. He serves as president of the communications business Roberts Tower Company LLC and is president, chief operating officer and founder of The Roberts Companies. He received a bachelor’s degree from Clark University in 1974 and earned J.D. and master of laws degrees from Washington University.

Roberts has served on the Clark Board of Trustees since 2011.
The Congressional Award, a public-private partnership established by Congress in 1979, is a noncompetitive program open to young people ages 14 to 23, regardless of mental or physical challenges or socioeconomic status. The Congressional Award Foundation teaches participants to set and achieve personally challenging goals that build character and foster community service, personal development and citizenship. Currently there are over 50,000 young people working to earn The Congressional Award.
