For Hung “William” Mai ’18, every experience is a chance to learn — and focus on his future.
Mai, a management major from Vietnam, appreciates how Clark University incorporates social, political and environmental aspects into its business courses. He especially connects with professors who bring real-life examples from their extensive experience into the classroom.
“Professor David Jordan has a passion for fostering entrepreneurship and teaching business skills to those in underdeveloped and developing countries,” he says. “What he does resonates with me because I’m from Vietnam, a developing country.”
Networking with Clark alumni, whom he reaches out to via LinkedIn and cold calling, also provides learning opportunities. Mai asks about their career paths, if they have any advice to share, and sometimes connects for informational interviews or internship referrals.
“It’s amazing how people who don’t know me can be so helpful and kind,” he says. “I think it’s because Clark is small and Clarkies are friendly.”
For a LEEP Project last summer, Mai interned as a financial analyst at LearnLux, an online personal financial literacy company for millennials co-founded by alumna Rebecca Liebman ’15 while she was still a Clark student.
After graduation, Mai plans to pursue an M.B.A. through Clark’s Accelerated B.A./Master’s Degree Program and wants to make an impact on impact future Clarkies’ lives.
“Clark introduced me to interesting people, new ideas and professional relationships,” he says. “Many people, especially alumni, have helped me so I want to help others, too.”
