The annual rope-pull contest across University Pond began in 1909, and pitted the freshman class against the sophomores.
In 1926, the Class of 1930 — despite serious preparation — lost to the Class of 1929. However, in 1927, the Class of 1930 restored their honor by dragging the Class of 1931 into the water as they took the win.
