The “Fiske Guide to Colleges,” revised and updated for 2018, again includes Clark University in its annual “selective, subjective, and systematic look at three-hundred-plus colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, and the U.K.”Fiske logo

The Fiske Guide covers a broad range of topics, including academic quality, student body, social life, financial aid, campus setting, housing, food, and extracurricular activities. About Clark, it states, “Clark’s Program of Liberal Studies promotes the habits, skills, and perspectives essential to lifelong learning,” and “Many of Clark’s course offerings are practice-based, tying in hands-on experiences outside the classroom.”

Additionally, the guide includes comments from unnamed Clark students. “‘The academic climate at Clark is a cooperative and friendly one. Students tend to work in groups and are always willing to help one another with course material,’ says a geography major. The quality of teaching is said to be ‘exceptional’ and a junior comments, ‘Not only do I feel like my professors are invested in my learning, but many of them are also interested in getting to know me as a person.’”

Clark’s history also is recognized: “Along with Johns Hopkins and Catholic University, Clark started out serving only graduate students but now offers a dynamic, undergraduate-focused educational environment. Clark continues to challenge convention, pioneering new teaching methods, pursuing new fields of knowledge, and finding new ways to connect thinking and doing. Through all this, community has remained a constant. Says a junior, ‘Clark is a warm and accepting place with students who hold the door open for others for just a little too long.’”

The Fiske Guide is compiled by Edward B. Fiske, who for 17 years served as education editor of the New York Times. Now a leading independent voice in college admissions, Fiske is also co-author of the “Fiske Guide to Getting into the Right College” and “Fiske Real College Essays That Work.”

The “Fiske Guide to Colleges” is available at bookstores now, on iTunes as an iPad app, and as a web app at CollegeCountdown.com.
