Worcester Telegram & Gazette: ‘In Worcester-area immigrant communities, disappointment over Supreme Court decision’

June 24, 2016
By Clark News and Media Relations

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported on local reaction to the Supreme Court’s rejection of the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programs. Clark University political science Professor Paul Posner weighed in on what the vote means to the initiative. Here, an excerpt:

“But the 4-4 vote by the Supreme Court on Thursday effectively kills both initiatives, leaving immigration reform to likely be settled by whoever is elected in the upcoming general election, said Clark University political science professor Paul Posner. While that uncertainty could motivate more members of the country’s immigrant communities to get out and vote this November, he said he’s ‘quite pessimistic, at least in the short-term, for any positive results from this situation.’

“ ‘People feel threatened on both sides,’ he said, a situation that is exacerbated by rhetoric from political leaders.”
