Clark University is one of three New England schools to offer at least one of the country’s hottest majors for undergraduates, according to The Princeton Review’s The Best 377 Colleges, 2013 edition. The college guide’s “Great Schools for 20 of the Most Popular Undergraduate Majors” list praises Clark for its psychology program.
Clark is on the list of “Great Schools for Psychology Majors,” along with Yale University, Carnegie Mellon University and New York University.
Estaban V. Cardemil, associate professor of psychology and director of clinical training at Clark, explained to GoLocalWorcester.com why psychology is one of the most popular majors for undergraduates. “It teaches students how to understand human behavior from a number of perspectives that range from the biological to the societal,” he said. “We build on the global reputation that Clark has in psychology and on the specific interests that students bring with them.”
In addition, the Frances L Hiatt School of Psychology at Clark offers students relatively small classes, close faculty-student research collaboration, and community internships to build a nationwide reputation. The opportunities for postgraduate training in psychology add to the major’s appeal, Cardemil said. “When you add in the impressive numbers of graduates who go on to postgraduate training — master, master of social work, and doctoral studies, for example — it’s understandable that students see the psychology major as an excellent way to prepare themselves for life after college.”
