Campus community’s going all out for ‘Go Green’ sustainability festival

April 27, 2011
By Clark News and Media Relations

Go Green logoThe Clark University community will throw a belated Earth Day party beginning at noon, Sunday, May 1, with “Go Green on the Green,” a sustainability festival featuring music, games and several memorable and educational visual displays all meant to help  Sustainable Clark celebrate existing programs and to grow an even greener campus community.

Sponsored by the Clark University Eco-Reps, “Go Green on the Green” will offer  tours of Clark’s co-generation plant, recyclables collection (e-waste, CDs), solar-cooked pizzas, a Tower of Recyclables, relay races, water fights, a slack line, and much more. A ‘Huck a Huffy’ contest, where challengers see how far they can throw a bicycle. Select winners of various games will receive free energy efficient CFL light bulbs.

Providing music are Clark University bands The Great Whiskey Rebellion and Wrighteous L, along with bands Melodeego, of Boston, and Big Tree, of California. Big Tree and Melodeego are committed to sustainability, touting a vegetable oil-powered tour bus and “Bike-Powered Vocals” respectively.

Lending a rainbow of color to “Go Green” events will be the South Asian Student Association’s celebration of Holi, India’s ancient Festival of Colors, from 2 to 4 p.m., outside of Atwood Hall.  SASA members will provide the color powders and water spray-guns for this vibrant rite of spring.

More than 22 campus community groups are participating in this free, public event, which is co-sponsored by the Clark Sustainability Collaborative, Pub Entertainment Committee, and Student Activities Board.
