Hundreds enjoy global flavors, fun at Inauguration week kickoff

September 22, 2010
By ClarkNews

Clark students, faculty and staff traveled the world on Tuesday, via their taste buds, as the Inauguration Passport Dinner drew about 1,200 people to the University Center last night to sample the cuisine of five countries. The selection of global delicacies celebrated the University’s diversity as well as President David Angel’s international work as a geographer. Clarkies dined on Plantain Cake (Haiti), Pad Thai (Thailand), Spinach Spanikopita (Greece), Fish and Chips (England) and assorted mini pastries (Austria).

The Inauguration Week events continue today with a panel discussion on “Sustainability in the 21stCentury” at 2 p.m. in Razzo Hall. Moderated by Prof. Jennie Stephens of the IDCE department, the discussion will address the issue of sustainability — and whether it can be achieved at the local and global levels. Panelists are: David Jordan, M.P.A. ’02, President and CEO of Seven Hills Foundation; Cynthia Abramson Nikitin ’81, Vice President for Public Buildings and Director of Civic Centers Program, Project for Public Spaces; Angela Mwandia, M.A. ’05, Coordinator, Environmental Hazards Programme, World Wildlife Fund, and Beth Pacella ’85, Senior Attorney, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
