WORCESTER, MA—The Corporation for National and Community Service named Clark University to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service efforts and service to disadvantaged youths. Launched in 2006, the Community Service Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement. Clark University has always been named among the honorees for the award, who are chosen based on a series of selection factors including scope and innovativeness of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service, and the extent to which the school offers academic service-learning courses. The Community Engagement and Volunteering (CEV) Center at Clark is the first stop for students, faculty and staff who engage in volunteer efforts that make a difference in the Worcester community. Hundreds of students volunteer each year with a vast array of organizations, programs and initiatives, including the Red Cross, All Kinds of Girls, Boys and Girls Club, Clark Brothers and Sisters (CUBS), MassPIRG, Peaceworks, Rotoract: Habitat for Humanity, and more. The Honor Roll is jointly sponsored by the Corporation, through its Learn and Serve America program, and the Department of Education, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, USA Freedom Corps, and the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. Overall, the Community Service Honor Roll recognized more than 700 schools for commitment to service and civic engagement. Other colleges in the Worcester area that appear on the honor roll include the College of the Holy Cross, Assumption College, Mount Wachusett Community College, and Worcester State College. The Honor Roll is jointly sponsored by the Corporation, through its Learn and Serve America program, and the Department of Education, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, USA Freedom Corps, and the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.
