Clark University sophomore All-American diver Eileen Garcia (New York, N.Y.) is featured in the February 22 issue of Sports Illustrated.
The issue, which hits newsstands on Thursday (Feb. 18) and has American speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno on the cover, has Garcia in the famed “Faces in the Crowd” section detailing her collegiate diving exploits.
She has been named New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Diver of the Week six times, set several school and facility records this season, helping the Cougars to an 8-1 record in dual meets entering this weekend’s conference championship meet.
Garcia is just one of four women in Division III this season to break 300 points (303.90 at Coast Guard) and is the only diver with two performances that rank in the top five this season.
As a freshman in 2008-09, she earned All-America honors after finishing eighth on the three-meter board at the NCAA Championships.
She becomes the fifth Clark student-athlete to be featured in the magazine following Marge O’Brien – Women’s Basketball (June 6, 1983), Lori Lengieza – Field Hockey (November 27, 1989), Jenifer West – Field Hockey (November 15, 1993) and Jesse Egan – Field Hockey (April 7, 2003).
Head coach of Clark University Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving is Paul E. Phillips.
